A very broad and general look at clothing worn on every continent since the dawning of time. Hundreds of pictures, but unfortunately, the majority of them are too tiny to be of much use. Poor layout, and without an index it is virtually impossible to find what you're looking for IF it's even contained within the pages of this book in the first place. If you're looking for specific, detailed information on fashion from a particular time/country this is not the book for you.

All of that prodded me to approach the designers on my own software delivery team and learn more by working with them. I changed my approach to testing. I started thinking about “How is this valuable to the customer” rather than “OK, the product owner wants this feature, how will I test it”.This book is about creating an effective product management organization. However, it is valuable to every team member, not only the product manager. Each of us should be thinking about what problems customers want to solve and how we can deliver chunks of that value frequently and sustainably. As a tester, I feel I have a lot to learn from the “great project manager” that Melissa describes in this book - able to collaborate with business stakeholders, technical team members, and designers. The kinds of questions that great product managers ask, as described here, inspire me to ask better questions from a testing perspective.Techniques like the Product Kata are practical ways for teams to build a vision through continual learning and involving everyone in the organization. When we’re heads down in the trenches developing software, it’s easy to lose track of what’s valuable to the business and customers. If you'd like to be more successful at building products that are actually successful, I can't recommend this book highly enough. Plus it's a quick easy read that has loads of concrete examples to help you understand what you can do differently.

Escaping the Build Trap is for everyone who can relate to the dysfunctions of Product Management and their propagation through an organization. It presents a simplified framework for establishing a product-led organization by taking the reader on a journey with a company that had to solve a problem critical to its success. There are plenty of concepts in the book that are worth more exploring once you figure out how they apply to your particular context. I like that the author has not gone layers deep into explaining a particular concept or technique to digress from the main plot.A book being an easy read is very high on my list given the wavering mind I possess. I cannot count the number of books I have started and not finished. Escaping the Build Trap will not be on that list. It is a real page-turner and more focused people can probably knock this out in a couple of days.I would recommend this book to get you started on your own journey towards understanding what really bothers your customers and taking a coherent approach for delivering value to the customers so that the organization can grow from it.

I've been in Product for 10+ years of my 25 year career and consistently found validation with Melissa's book. Many times I've had to defend Product as a function and push to get a seat at the table so Executives can understand and support the best practices Melissa lays out in here book. Many CEOs come from Sales, Engineering, Operations and other background and this book helps provide a framework so they can support the Product team be successful and lead to growth for the company.Many software teams are too feature focused with too little input from actual customers. Without understanding the motivations of the customer in their environment, what they value and what problems you can help solve for them, your Product team is throwing darts at a dart board.Melissa's story telling with the fictional company helps provide insight into what it can really be like when a company gets stuck in the "Build Trap". It's also helps you see that you are stuck and how you can get out of it...and it seems doable!Thanks Melissa for sharing your experiences and expertise through this book. I have read, and loved, all of Sue Watson's books but this one just didn't do it for me. In fact, I couldn't wait to get to the end. Not because it was interesting, I just hoped something unoredictable was going to happen! I hated the way it was written in the first person, constantly jumping between different tenses. It was slow too, simply full of the main characters thoughts, feelings and reminisences and lacked Ms Watson's normal humerous style. I prefer a story with more action and dialogue. I hope the author returns to her previous wonderful story-telling for her next release.

a totally nothing story. Must have written it in an afternoon. Kept waiting for something interesting to happen.

This book is quite frankly beautiful. I found it such a relief to be reading something so uplifting and positive and inspiring. A book that gives hope to the reader for second chances and love and that things do just have a way of working out.Rosie and her family are left bereft after their dad and husband Mike passes away and Rosie resigns herself to a life of loneliness and, well, just ticking over. She is a devoted mother and grandmother and could not do more for her children, but a chance meeting with a man from her past makes her realise that even a woman in her sixties is allowed to have hopes and dreams.Peter was Rosie’s first love. Most of us have them. First loves are so important to us and I think most of us sometimes stop and wonder where they are now and how things would work out if they never left.Thankfully for Rosie, she gets to find out. There are things she can finally discuss with Peter in order for both of them to move on and rekindle the magical love they once felt for each other. Rosie knows that Mike was the best man for her and her family and she knows that nobody could ever replace him, but with Peter, she is allowed to be that seventeen year old girl again – a girl with dreams, confidence and artistic spirit.Sue Watson has managed to reflect family relationship exactly how I would imagine them. Rosie’s two very different daughters, her difficult relationship with her own mother and, of course, her beautiful relationship with her granddaughters. The author shows brilliantly how difficult it must be for an outsider to try and join into such a closed circle.I would recommend this book to anyone. It’s an uplifting read, that makes you feel good about your own family ties and relationships and it actually felt like I was going through a therapy whilst reading this book.Thank you to the author and NetGalley for access to this book in return for this honest opinion.

Peter was Rosie's first love. They met at art college when they were still very young and Peter broke Rosie's heart. He would love to see her again and even though it's difficult for Rosie she's also curious, so they set a date.When Rosie's ready to start seeing someone romantically again, Peter would love to go out with her and get to know her once more. He wants them to have a second chance. Things went wrong when they were young, but it's never too late, they can still have a future together. At the age of sixty-four Rosie gets another chance at love. Will she take it and what will be the consequences if she does?We'll Always Have Paris is a beautiful and sweet story. I loved that Sue Watson has chosen to write about a stunning woman who's in her sixties. It was wonderful to read about Rosie and her family. Rosie is a strong woman, she can stand up for herself, she's talented and she knows what she's capable of. I immediately liked her and loved reading about her adventures. Peter has something to prove and I was curious to see if he'd be able to. He's kind, charming and artistic and he has a great free spirit. The old chemistry between Rosie and Peter is back immediately and they are amazing together.Sue Watson is very good at writing about families. She knows exactly how to describe relationships between people and she has an impressive way of expressing emotions. That's what makes We'll Always Have Paris such a fantastic story, she writes about both the happy and the sad parts of life in an equally comfortable way, which makes her stories warm and recognizable. She's thoroughly thinking through every situation she writes about and she makes her readers aware of their own feelings as well as those of her main characters, which is an admirable quality.We'll Always Have Paris is a true gem. The story is heartwarming and even though the topic is serious there's enough lightness and fun to bring a good balance. Everything in this novel works, which makes it easy for the reader to sit back and enjoy the story. I loved that Sue Watson managed to surprise me over and over again and the ending is absolutely brilliant, she couldn't have chosen a better way to finish her story. I highly recommend this fabulous sparkling, creative, daring, and unique novel.

And the past becomes prologue, as Rosie and Peter (his real name) renew their acquaintance, and find that their future might just turn out to be more interesting than four decades of what might have been. Told in prose by turns poetical and prosaic (and perhaps threaded with a little too much chatspeak, courtesy of teen grandchildren), this refreshingly uncomplicated but still enchanting tale gives us a sixty-something as a romantic heroine, her feelings as intense and valid as any young sylph of the genre, alongside a flawed but debonair suitor vying for acceptance… and forgiveness.
