My toddler and I read through these jokes at snacktime. I think these are better suited for children a bit older (6-10 year olds?)... many of these were above my three year old's comprehension. That being said, I picked out a number of jokes that I thought he might "get" and he did enjoy those. The "crambulance" (crab + ambulance) joke was his favorite. A few minutes after we were done with the joke book, he did want me to read more.

It is nice to see a joke book that are easy to read for my kids to learn. I read them a few and they were rolling on the floor laughing! Now they are saying they can't wait to go to school to tell some of the jokes to their friends and teachers! I can not wait to read the rest of the books. Oh and the puppet was adorable. My 5 yr old son claimed it for himself.

My kids actually think I'm cool reading the jokes to them. I really love this book and the added bonus Puppets. I highly recommend this book! I would give this book even more stars if I could. I am currently reading it for the 3rd time, and I am still picking up on new things and ways of thinking. Yes, it is informative about Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, but the bulk of the book challenges ones thinking, way of life, and the way we cultivate what comes into our lives, both positive and negative. I purchased this book because I struggle with anxiety and depression and have difficulty finding joy in life sometimes. I am not saying this book is a cure, but it has helped me. Recently, going through some struggles at work with coworkers and negativity, I chose to start reading this book once again to help me not to thrive on the negative, but to Choose Joy. Can't recommend this book enough (even if you are not religious, even if you don't know anything about these two men, the book will benefit you.) Definitely will be buying copies for Christmas gifts.

The Book of Joy lives up to its title and goes much further. It highlights the many ways in which we can all bring greater joy, fulfillment and purpose into our lives, and illuminates the nature of the interconnected relationship between painful emotions and deep happiness. The book not only reaffirms this truth with great clarity, but through the magic of Abrams’ skillful facilitation shows the many ways in which these two great spiritual leaders, both of whom are also great teachers of peace and reconciliation, embody the totality of what it means to be both ordinary and simultaneously outrageous, mischievous, and completely unpredictable!An unexpected delight of this book is the frequency and ease with which these two men bring forth their playfulness, wit, wisdom, and laugh-out-loud humor, even when they are immersed in profoundly deep discourse.What I found personally most rewarding was the teaching that ran through the book that had to do with the many ways in which it is possible to find joy even in the most difficult of times. Both of these men have endured great hardship and adversity both in their own lives and in the lives of millions of their countrymen, women and children, and yet their extraordinarily brilliant spirit shines brightly through every page of this amazing book. How do they do it? The Book of Joy truly fulfills its promise to answer that question.I give this book five stars only because I can’t give it six!

SETH J. GILLIHAN, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Psychiatry Department at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Gillihan has written more than 40 journal articles and book chapters on the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression, how CBT works, and the use of brain imaging to study psychiatric conditions. He is the author of Retrain Your Brain: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in 7 Weeks, a self-directed workbook for managing depression and anxiety, and co-author with Janet Singer of Overcoming OCD: A Journey to Recovery. As an mental health professional (MHP) with a Master's degree in psychotherapy (specifically, CBT), I endorse this book for individuals who are looking for practical tools and interventions to help with specific issues/problems. One premise of CBT is that we teach clients that the one hour of therapy session that focuses on the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is not the primary agent of change. (This concept countermands other theoretical orientations and constructs in psychology in which the therapeutic relationship is the primary agent of change.) Rather, the therapy occurs when applying CBT interventions the other six days and 23 hours per week outside the therapy sessions and outside the therapist/client relationship. That does not mean that therapy sessions should not take place; however, the purpose of therapy is to equip clients with applicable tools and interventions that they can put into practice. Gillihan's book provides a comprehensive set of applicable CBT interventions that have been simplified for the layperson's use.(I do not know Seth J. I've read and practiced CBT , REBT techniques outlined by guys like Ellis and Burns for years. This book has been added to my resources on this subject. He covers the gamut of CBT and, most importantly, adds new material from research that has been conducted since the originators of this very effective therapy ( mindfulness for example). Written in a down to earth style so very layman friendly. If you use CBT or want to get a fine introduction, and then some.... read Gillihan.

A must read for anxiety reduction. The author hits it on the head in a simple to read and understand way.

Very readable and I started treating myself right away after the first few chapters. It is an excellent layman treatise on the subject. Finally I know what CBT is and I can use it on my patients and on myself. Now I give myself more permission to turn negative experiences in my life into a positive power that helps me grow and see the good in all that happens to me. Seriously. But you need to want to be positive. Life is hard and I can see how some of us may not want to get over a passive negativepessimistic state.

As a professional counselor I enjoy reading books which reinforce what I use in my practice. I felt this book is also a good tool to use with clients as it presents cognitive behavioral therapy is laymens terms.

Nothing new. Recommended for readers that know nothing about CBT. Not great use of my time. Liked the price though

This book actually made me feel more anxious and depressed. His free YouTube video on PTSD is 100 percent better.

This is a great introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Allmost everyon can benefit from CBT at some point in their life. It's easy to read and very helpful in understanding yourself and those around you.
