Ordered for a basketball themed raffle basket to donate to my son's school Harvest Festival fundraiser. Such a great price and arrived right on time.

Gave this book to my 9 year old nephew who loves basketball. He thought it was great and knew all the players in the book.

My grandson who is 12 and dreaming of being the best on his basketball team, love this book . He said he learned a lot from this book.

My great nephew is a talented 10-year-old who plays basketball really well for his age. He seemed excited to get this as a gift.

Poor value for money. I could not see what market this was written for. A disappointing gift for my basket ball playing grandson.

Great concept book because as I started on the AIP journey I really didn't know where to start to eat much less prepare meals. These are quick and easy meals and for one person they go a long ways. I cook and divide the portions to my desired amount then seal and freeze the rest and doing a couple recipes gives me food for a week or more. I did two to start and that wasn't enough variety so now I'm going to do three so I can rotate.

I have used the recipes on Jessica's website (free for everyone!) from years ago when I encountered a crippling bout of autoimmunity. I didn't have the energy for much but to surf the internet for help, cook and try to recover. Now that I'm healthy and productive again, I am much busier. This is a wonderful cookbook of quick, easy and very nutritious meals I can feed my family! An easy way to fit AIP into a busy lifestyle. The ingredients list is minimal and it focuses on the use of only a braiser, which is GREAT because the flavors cook into each other! Thank you Jessica for providing me great tools to heal, stay healthy... and eat like a king!

This is an excellent way to save time AND adhere to the AIP diet. I have been struggling trying to stay on the AIP and failing. Mostly because of the time it takes to make food for myself (and not having the energy), so I end up taking shortcuts and falling off of AIP. I ordered this book as kind of a last ditch try and have been very pleasantly surprised. I love the recipes and have a difficult time deciding which one to have next. The recipes are all very easy and the toughest thing in the book is waiting for the preserved lemons to be ready. It is very easy to put them together, however. The lemons are only in some of the recipes and I am sure will be a great flavor addition. I finally feel like I have had enough to eat and look forward to feeling well enough to tackle my other books of AIP recipes. Thank you Jessica Flanigan, for the answer to my struggle!

Uses lots of coconut oil and products which I am sensitive to. I haven't used any recipes yet except the Plantain "bread". The recipes seem basically easy, but weird. Plantains do not taste good to me.

I really love this concept. Cut veg, squash, meats to sizes so that they can roast all in one pan flavoring each other. You end up with much less dishwashing. My one criticism, and it's not really that fair, but the recipes are a bit bland. I think this is truly because AIP really limits spices and flavorings you can use in your cooking. Maybe I'm just getting used to that concept. Otherwise LOVE this book.

I have purchased this book, in the most desperate time where I found out in a really bad way, that I have to change my diet.This book is a life saver, I couldn’t eat a piece of toast and had no clue what to eat, I am okay cooking but the fact the the recipes take average 10 min to get ready to cook is priceless. Thank you so much for this book and he great recipes inside. AIP is bringing me back to a healthy state.

This was an okay read aloud for my classroom. The students had a hard time getting into this story and for the first few days asked for me to ditch it, but we stuck with the book and it was a fine read.This book has a mystery that was fun to follow along with, but the ending tied things up too quickly.Many of the 7th graders in my building were reading this book so maybe it is for an older crowd.

A fantastic read for both boys and girls!!! Finding Mighty tells the story of twelve year old neighbors Myla and Peter, who search for the link between Myla’s necklace and the disappearance of Peter’s brother, Randall. There are lots of interesting worlds explored here, graffiti and parkour among them. It also takes place in New York City and the suburb of Dobbs Ferry, NY which might be exciting for local readers. On the search for Randall, Myla and Peter both find themselves on the edge of danger which makes this book a real page-turner, but Chari doesn't just stay on the surface. Complex and diverse characters, friendships, and family bonds are all at work here in another great mystery by Sheela Chari!

Sheela Chari has done it again. Finding Mighty was a very engaging read, with plot twists and a web of events that are gradually revealed along the way. The characters are well-developed, with insights into their thoughts and motivations as they each try to figure out their piece of the puzzle and who they can trust among the other characters. I could not put it down!

New York sixth grader and Indian American Myla (no one can pronounce her actual name) dreams of being noticed…she’s short, and doesn’t see anything remarkable in herself. Mixed-race Peter just wants to hang out with his older brother Randall since their mother is busy (when she’s not nervous about something) and their father has been dead for years. Myla buys a necklace with an Om (Sanskrit letter) on it hoping it will draw attention, and a creepy guy tries to get it back from her. Peter’s brother vanishes…and then their mother insists they move AGAIN. Parallel mysteries narrated by the two main characters intersect as the two meet and (slowly) learn to trust each other.What does the Om necklace have to do with the graffiti Om tags appearing around New York & suburbs? How does that tie in to Randall’s disappearance? And does any of this have anything to do with Peter’s father’s death or the diamonds his grandmother is reported to have helped to steal? Sheela Chari’s second mystery is as intriguing as her Edgar-award nominated first mystery Vanished. Very realistic, intelligent, urban middle-classed tween characters people (and solve) this page-turning mystery. Well worth every young mystery reader’s time.(Hmm, you say, a sentence in that review sounds very familiar after at look at the book jacket...wonder why... :-)

Let’s first start off by saying that the book Finding Mighty written by Sheela Chari is a mysterious and crazy book. This book is filled with multiple different details and obstacles that the characters have to travel through. Throughout the book the characters are stuck finding out who Mighty is or where he is staying. Randall aka Mighty’s brother, Peter, meets a girl, Myla, at school and she is then involved in his messed up family life. Mighty has always wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps after his father died. Also the chapters are in different character’s point of views, so one chapter can be Myla’s point of view as if she is telling the chapter. Then the next one can be told by Peter or Randall. There are many main characters with many different personalities. One main character is Myla, she is very curious throughout the whole book. She is always wondering what is going on and what the whole diamond thing is about. Myla even read Randall’s black book just so she can find out what the tagging was all about. The second main character is Peter, he is also curious, he can also be very outgoing. He is always trying to follow Randall on his runs; once Peter was following Randall and he caught him jumping along the railroad tracks. The last main character is Randall. Randall is always a follower and is always trying to follow in his dad’s footsteps. He is trying to tag just like his dad, and he even took his dad’s tag for himself. He did this so that his dad’s tag would stay around. I like this book and everything, but the thing is that it isn’t kinda predictable once you start reading it. If you like mysteries you can read this book, but if you like more books that are a surprise in most parts then go reach for this book.

What starts at a misunderstanding at school, ends up bringing twelve-year-olds Myla and Peter together to solve the disappearance of Peter's brother, Randall and the connection it has to Myla's missing necklace.As Myla and Peter follow the graffiti trail left behind by Randall, they discover family secrets that involve stolen diamonds, mysterious deaths, and a dangerous gang who will stop at nothing to find Randall and the hidden diamonds.Story alternates between first person which gives greater insight to Myla, Peter and Randall thoughts and actions. The backdrop of New York and Dobb's Ferry with the emphasis on graffiti art will strike a cord to inner city youth. While the plot feels contrived at times, the action takes has the reader anxiously running with the characters through darkened streets, hoping they can dodge not only shady gang members but also cops. I have no real experience of what it's like in the Arctic. Thus finding out about it from reading a well-written mystery novel was a pleasure. The factual details of what everyday life entails in the far North for the people who live there are fascinating to me. While Edie Kiglatuk was solving the mystery, I read about her diet including blubber, seal blood and other local foods extremely strange to me. I read of her continuous need to protect herself from the elements by layering furs and other sorts of clothing that she had obtained and made from hunting. This life is not simple or easy; survival is sometimes a moment-by-moment achievement. All in all, I appreciated the way the author made the characters real and down-to-earth and eminently believable, the way the environment itself was depicted that made it, in all its characteristics both subtle and dramatic, a character in the story. I was not only entertained but informed by this book.

Haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a long time. Very well written, great detective story, subplots everywhere, bad guys under every rock, and a lot of really interesting information about the Inuit and their culture. Looking forward to reading the others.

This is the story of Edie Kiglatuk, a native of far off, underpopulated Ellesmere Island, a large island with few inhabitants, mostly Inuits. Edie is half Inuit, half qalunaat (white), but feels herself wholly Inuit. She is a hunting guide, teacher and has never been away from Nunavut. However, looking for leads she flies to Greenland and is surprised at the size of Nuuk. She is befriended by a young woman, another Inuit, who shows her the ropes about getting around the large city of Nuuk. Edie has never been to such a large town.The book begins when Edie is guiding two white men on a hunting trip. One of the men is killed, a shooting accident? Edie thinks not. But she is not believed. She is only a woman. Edie has been married, divorced, no kids. Her stepson, Joe, is the love of her life. He is planning to become a nurse. Edie is proud of him wanting to help his people. Then Joe commits suicide. He had no reason to. He was not depressed, he was ambitious. He was like a son to Edie, the son she never had. She is thirty-three and trying to get away from alcohol abuse. And she is winning the fight. But all this might set her back. Joe's alcoholic mother blames Edie for all this. She stole her husband, her son. Edie is bent on knowing the truth of all this. Does desolate Craig Island have hidden treasures beneath its ice and snow?Another character is Derek Palliser. Derek is part Inuit, part qalunaat, and part Cree (an enemy of Inuits). He feels as though he is put together with left over and unneeded parts. Derek is a police sergeant in another tiny Inuit town, a distance from Akisaq. He has problems with some of the Inuits who are at war with different family members. He is in love with a Russian lady, an artist, who is just using him. Derek is studying lemmings, he would have liked to be a biologist, but he couldn't afford a college education.Edie is a gutsy lady who tackles life unafraid. She wonders about what happened, these characters to die for an unknown reason. And she is determined to find out the truth.The writer's words pictures Ellesmere Island and the surrounding islands very realisticly, very poetically and brings readers into this fierce, harsh, snow and ice covered country. The far north is bleak, the air is cold and clear, this land has its own beauty.The reader is introduced to Edie's Aunt Mattie, a great airplane pilot, when she is not drunk, ex-husband, Sammy, who comes to visit Edie on a regular basis, his dominent older brother, the town mayor, Old Koperkuj, who wants nothing to do with the white world.Edie thinks about these characters having weaknesses, drugs, alcohol for example. But she pauses to think that she is not free from weakness, so who is she to judge.This book is filled with adventure and is set in a part of the world I am interested in but am unable to visit. Edie is full of courage, takes no foolishness from others, is determined to live life on her own terms, an admirable character. So get in touch with the Inuit world. Read the book.

I love reading about ordinary people in different cultures. I was pleased to get a glimpse of how Inuit live and how they see themselves and people from ‘the south,’ meaning anyone south of the Arctic. It was for me a problem keeping some unfamiliar names of people and places straight, but I could have written them down. This book was interesting enough for me to want to read another by the same author, M. J. McGrath.

There was much to enjoy about this book: a fascinating setting so unfamiliar to me; a protagonist who is torn between strong ties to her culture and a burning need to take actions that could threaten her acceptance in her community and who must fight her own personal demons; and murder!Weaving Inuit diet, clothing, domiciles, transportation, and community life into the story made the fabric of the book strong and vibrant. Often I was compelled to read on simply to learn more.Many other reviewers have given fine plot summaries, so another is not necessary. However, too often the plot was obfuscated by lengthy action scenes that I slogged through, sensing they were blow by blow directions for the eventual filming of this story. Tightening up some scenes might have made the story more powerful and allowed more focus on the main characters. Somehow it felt as though they lacked sufficient depth, although the potential surely existed.Clearly the book read like the beginning of a series. Would I read the next in the series? Oh yes!... in the hopes that the richness of the characters, culture, and setting continued to be mined, but it would have to be more tighty written for me to try any more beyond that.

Since we have a summer house in Canada, I've been searching high and low for great reads set in Canada. This is one of my favorites. WHITE HEAT, set on Canada's Ellesmere Island in the Arctic circle, is the first novel in a series featuring hunter, tourist guide, and sometimes-detective Edie Kiglatuk, a half-Inuit woman. In this novel, she's drawn into solving a mystery revolving around the death of her stepson and two tourists. The book is rich with geological and cultural details that are as gripping as the mystery itself, such as when our heroine downs a bowl of seal blood or stands still as lemmings race over her feet.

This story is gripping for many reasons. The characters are convincing and empathetic. The plot is suspenseful and involving. The land and the culture are essential characters and an important part of the work`s irresistible draw.
