So, I love the Sookie books. I do. She's so strong. She's wonderful. she's not perfectly thin and in shape. She's a size 10 and she's got flaws. Human flaws. And while I'm typically not a fan of vampire novels, I love these. The whole series. I love that she falls in and out of love. I love that she lets herself cry. I love that she gets scared and still triumphs and does the right thing and helps people.

Things are heating up!! Sookie’s world is definitely spinning out of control ever since she became entangled with Bill and the other Vampires. As the journey continues, Sookie begins to discover and uncover more about her will and level of endurance. The author has definitely changed my view of Eric. I like him more than Bill because there is no pretense about him whatsoever. Book 3 is filled with detail and connected dots that I did not get from the tv series. I’m looking forward to more in the stackhouse series.

In the first two novels, there's a big focus on Sookie's romantic life; vampires are still there, but they hang around more like ghastly Christmas ornaments in the background instead of playing a big role. Club Dead changes all of that.Sookie's relationship with Bill is on the rocks from the first page...well, the first line. "Bill was hunched over his computer when I let myself in his house." In the other books, Sookie and Bill have this vibrant connection; one could cut the sexual tension with a fang. Harris immediately sets a different tone with these thirteen words: the honeymoon is over.Sookie's world changes so much when Bill enters the picture that it's hard to remember that she is so inexperienced when it comes to love. Bill's aloofness (and subsequent problems throughout Club Dead) change Sookie's perception of not only him, but herself and men in general quite a bit. In short, Sookie's growing pains make the story. It's her transformation and development as a character that makes Club Dead stand from the others.New supernatural creatures are starting to rear their heads in Bon Temps, and I personally loved the different vibe of the werewolves. Vampires retain a different set of human characteristics than the weres do. Seeing the animalistic nature set against the cold and conniving vampires opens up not only a new debate for Sookie, but for me as a reader.I loved this installment of the Sookie series. Harris is opening so many doors for all of the characters, not only Sookie. My only complaint is Harris's writing tended to drop off a little more in Club Dead; instead of the wry humor and sarcasm I fell in love with in the first book, there's more of a straight, flat narrator. I miss the quirkiness of Sookie's first person POV.THE RATING:FOUR STARSWHY:- awesome character development- Sookie's personal life transitions connected well with the plot- only downside: writing fell off from the previous books

I found Sookie absolutely irritating and stupid beyond belief in this book. Her willingness to save Bill after such betrayal is just staggering to me. What he does to her at the end is absolutely reprehensible, yet she makes an excuse for him and lets it fly by. What a moron! Since when is she so super hot? I hate when characters become desirable to anyone in the book. That's not realistic. The vampires make sense because of her blood, but no one else should be drooling like they do. Sookie was stupid not to hook up with Alcide when she had the chance. He was stupid to hook up with Debbie. His sister must be stupid because she seems pretty clueless. Sookie has become a hypocrite. She puts down fangbangers, calling them pathetic because they have become addicted to sex with a vampire. Yet Bill can violate her in multiple ways and she still craves him as much as fangbanger would. In the first book, she whines about how she will never be able to cook breakfast for Bill. But she does this for Alcide, an attractive human man, someone she can comfortably date even with her "disability", and she still obsesses over Bill. The plot and action of this book were good, but I really didn't like Sookie in this one at all. I am actually surprised this book is rated so highly to be honest.

I bought the first 5 books in this series because I was a fan of the HBO show Trueblood. I was curious to see how closely the books followed the show. I can say that there are times when I can visual the show while I read these books. This is book 1 and I am on book 3 right now. Most of this first book was in season 1 of Trueblood, with a couple of very significant differences which I won't mention in case you've not seen the show. I like the characters a little better in the book - Sookie seems more decisive, Sam comes across as sexier, Bill less sexy and colder and more vampire like, and Eric his sexy self, interested in Sookie, but not figuring very largely in the story in this first book. But I think the show's Eric may have been given a bigger role as time went on because he was so popular (Eric was my fave vamp on the show). This will feel like old ground if you've seen the first season of Trueblood but I still enjoyed it. It's an easy read and you can finish the book in a couple of days, even just reading at night like I do.

Thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Emily through the very honest story telling of her life. I have been listening to her podcast for a while but didn’t know about her colorful and fascinating upbringing.

I absolutely loved this book. This book is incredibly well written, sad, inspiring, funny and entertaining. The essential main content is sad of course with the story of how Emily lost her sister and parents in a very short period of time, but at the same time this book is incredibly funny and uplifting.Emily in the book isn't saying poor me, look what happened to me, she is telling the story of what happened honestly and with humor. I lost my own father a couple of years ago and although I shed a few tears identifying with Emily's experiences of hospitals and hospices, I actually found some calm and strength in identifying with Emily's words and experiences. The tales of Emily's childhood with her eccentric parents and other family members is hilarious and such great entertainment. She weaves us into her world and strange upbringing, before placing us in her new reality of illness and death. Emily is a true survivor of something bad, which she does with such honesty and emotion. She is such an amazing and inspiring person. I wish I could meet her in real life and just give her a big hug.

Fantastic read! Richtel compellingly interweaves the science and history of immunology into the lives of four patients, each dealing with different aspects of immune function & dysfunction: overreaction, underreaction, recognizing self as enemy, recognizing enemy as self, and much more.It's an ambitious premise, and he pulls it off magnificently. I had to read the whole thing in one sitting. What makes the book supremely compelling is the vivid story of his childhood friend Jason's cancer treatment. Jason not only granted Richtel access to all of his medical records and doctor visits, but also had the kind of revelatory long talks and walks that only best friends can have. The result is an unusually well-rounded psychological portrait of a patient, along with the intricately winding course of his treatment that reads like a detective story, except real. The tales are poignant, and I found myself crying (and laughing) multiple times.As someone who's studied immunology twice, as both biologist and medical student, I found the book a useful refresher of immune function, with some updates into the 21st century. If you do not have a background in immunology, however, this is a must-read. Every day, billions of malign agents are trying to kill you, and fail only because your immune system is on guard. How does it recognize and ward off the infinitude of potential pathogens that could invade you and lay you low? How can it tell outsiders from insiders? Wow!I’m almost at a loss for words to describe AN ELEGANT DEFENSE and emphasize not only how important but also how interesting this book is. So I begin my comments with an exclamation (wow).This is a science book. But (whoa, don’t go away) it is probably unlike any science book you’ve had experience with. It is casual and easy to understand. And even though it does contain scientific words, Matt Richtel occasionally reminds the reader what they mean and how they are applicable to what he then describes.I am not a scientific or medical person. I only decided to read this because Richtel is a Pulitzer Prize winner for his A DEADLY WANDERING. And was I surprised that someone could make the science of the immune system so darned interesting. Honestly, it was as if I was reading an exciting thriller last night when I stayed up reading this book until I fell asleep sometime past midnight. Maybe that’s because he gives real-life examples of what he is talking about.Richtel divides AN ELEGANT DEFENSE into five parts, each perfectly named (as are the chapters). First he introduces us to four people, examples for “the extraordinary new science of the immune system.” Next comes the science, which Richtel still manages to keep casual, even humorous at times. Tons of beautiful photos fill this thick volume. The photos are very clear and appear true to life in color. The book is sectioned off by various areas of the home such as: dining, living room, kitchen, etc. There are many helpful tips and designer favorite tips. The writing is clear on the eyes and in concept. This is somewhat of a basic decorating book and I did feel some areas were rather boring such as: going over finding the perfect bench to place at the foot of the master bed. That being said what average homeowner among us couldn't use some brushing up on basic home layouts. Like most HB books it is really stunning but unlike some HB books the photos are not overly ornate at all and many focus on an eclectic style incorporating both modern, country and some Mediterranean designs. Some HB books seem to only be for the rich and famous. This is somewhat of a basic book with room/furniture layout discussed as well as color choices for walls, etc. I did still feel that many of the rooms were above the budget of the average homeowner but take what you can from this beautiful book. I personally would have very much liked to see more wall art displays...that was lacking. Also: for the bedrooms...more full suite photos would have been appreciated.

The book is nicely printed, very good pictures inside and nicely indexed. I think the nice index was also what fooled me on buying this book. I thought I could learn how to design my own house from this book but instead it just show you common sense and general design concept for each room. There is no real instruction and information in this book. Still a nice book to keep on your book shelf though.

It contains info on proper furniture arrangement, tablescaping, selecting a color scheme and blending patterns, proper lighting, window treatments etc. It is broken down in sections so it's easy to use as a resource for specific design questions. It has alot of wonderful pictures of decorated rooms for inspiration as well. This book has 463 pages of info and pictures you will use time and time again. GET THIS BOOK! You will not be sorry.

I have had my eye on this book for a long time. Have checked it out at the library so many times...it is awesome. A very comprehensive design guide and it is organized in a very logical and easy to follow manner. I will refer to it regularly and am so happy to include it in my library.

I love reading this book to my son! He loves touching the pages and looking at the beautiful artwork. Also hoard books are the best for the stages when they grab everything in sight! Was given a copy as a gift then bought two more for gifts for others!

I purchased this book mainly because of the baby wearing momma on the front. I LOVE THIS BOOK. The words are touching, the pictures are gorgeous, and it's short enough that I can read it to my toddler without her running off halfway through.

Heartwarming tale that all new moms will love to read to their baby. Made me tear up a little sharing all the love.

This is a really good book. A reviewer said it may be the best submarine book since 'Hunt for Red October', and that is probably true.The story follows the ballistic submarine Kentucky as it receives an order to launch a nuclear strike and proceeds to travel to its launch area. The submarine has been provided deceptive information by sources on both sides of the ocean, and it is pursued across the ocean by the entire US Pacific Fleet in an effort to abort the launch.Along the way we meet numerous characters, on the Kentucky as well as on other Navy vessels, and various people in the US and other governments. There is exactly the right amount of character development and background information, and there are many well developed sub-plots. The prose is professionally written and easy to read, and the story flows at a proper pace without getting bogged down in useless sidelines. There is plenty of technical information, causing you to believe the story was written by someone who actually knows what he's talking about. The story is salted with many plot twists, and the conclusion is not what you expect. Once you get going, it is hard to put this book down.A few nitpicks: I would like to think that certain intelligence agencies would not in real life choose courses of action depicted in this book (but they might). I imagine Iran would be slightly more upset than they were at the end of the book. And perhaps the author got his inspiration for this story while watching the movie 'Crimson Tide'. But in truth this is a well written story that makes you wonder what could happen (or maybe happens more than we know) in the real world. Read it - you'll be glad you did.

I am very claustrophobic. I can't think of too much worse than being submerged in a submarine for months (or even days) at a time. But I like to read good submarine books. And I think this one was great.The author is a retired Navy Commander who spent over 20 years on submarines in his career so there is definitely a sense of realism in this story.The story is centered around a conspiracy to bomb Iran. Computers are hacked, people are bribed, and one of the U.S. nuclear submarines is sent bogus messages and codes to launch their weapons upon Iran. After they receive the orders, they go silent and the U.S. government must find a way to stop this disaster from happening.There's a long list of characters in the book but I focused more on their job titles and didn't worry about remembering all their names and that worked fine for me.I've seen this favorably compared to THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and I agree. I enjoyed both equally.I highly recommend this tale to those that like military thrillers, action thrillers, books about ocean travel in general or specifically submarines. I don't read too many of these type books but if you do, I believe the author has written four more similar books.

The USS Kentucky is a Trident ballistic missile submarine carrying nuclear warheads on patrol in the Pacific Ocean when it receives a launch order in retaliation to a nuclear attack on Washington D.C. When the administration becomes aware of the strike order terminations orders are sent numerous times but there is no response from the submarine. Who sent the launch order? Will the USS Kentucky carry out its mission? If so, will it be successful? These are the questions to be answered in this superb military/thriller and while they require a certain degree of suspension of disbelief you should to so ( this is fiction after all) and one suspenseful story.The book was written by Rick Campbell, a retired Navy Commander, and is full of terrific actions scenes as well as personal stories about some of the main characters. involved in the story. The author does not get the reader bogged down in to much technical jargon and use of acronyms as so many books of this genre do The action is easy to follow and there is alot the reader will learn about submarines and the decisons that must be made in combat situations. I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to the sequel entitled Empire Rising.

Purchased for my child's 7yo birthday - he loves civil aircraft, and this book was definitely a hit. Very detailed descriptions; individual aircraft specification presented along with large clear colored photos. I purchased this together with the Boeing Jetliners color series book, but I believe my son prefers this book. Overall, very pleased with purchase.

Excellent detail of the greatest planes that have been flown. Great drawings that show specifications and how each planes difference . Also, good reading about them and what makes each one so special.

Lacked a small bit in coverage but a great new encyclopedia to have in collection

Many identification guides have been written concerning commercial aircraft, but this field guide is the latest in my memory that features the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the new Bombardier CSeries regional jet. I like how the writer provided concise specifications and 3-view illustrations of each aircraft.

This book is nicely laid out with photos and drawings, but as an historic review of the world's major commercial airliners, it neglects to include the Consolidated Convair series of airliners (240/340/440). This significant airliner basically replaced the DC-3 for short haul work and was purchased and used extensively by virtually every major US airline and most of the major European carriers. A book of this type cannot fail to include this important airliner in the history of commercial aviation. In addition, the authors include the Russian supersonic airliner, which hardly flew and never made a mark on civil aviation history.
